Hand Surgery and Surgical Practice Alstertal Germany Hamburg Poppenbuettel – Tel:  +49 (0) 40 602 30 06

Info

Impingement of the nerve at the elbow joint. Caused typically from strong flexion in elbow joint elbow during the night. Also idiopathic occurance is common. Tingling of the small and half the ring finger, weakness and clumsiness of the hand. The ulnar nerve supplies the majority of tiny hand muscles. These are doing all the fine, steering work for the function. A typical symptome is having problems using a door key.

Therapy

If no improvement by immobilization and avoidance of strong flexion, operative decompression of the Ulnar nerve is necessary.

Operative procedure

In subaxillary plexus anaesthesia or local anesthesia decompression of the nerve and shift from the obstruction bone rim into soft tissue. Almost, the Nerve gets full recovery after Operation.

What’s next

Upper arm splint for several days. Unable to work for 1-3 weeks occasionally Sometimes physiotherapy is useful after surgery.
