Hand Surgery and Surgical Practice Alstertal Germany Hamburg Poppenbuettel – Tel: +49 (0) 40 602 30 06

Info

After millions of movements during live, the flexor tendon/s sheet becomes less flexible. This results in painful movement of the finger or partial block of range of movement or the inability to flex or stretch the finger. Often, when moving finger a painful snapping occurs.

Therapy

At least in almost every cases, an minor operative procedure is necessary. In early stages sometimes Physiotherapy and Massage can help. If not, or the disease exists for more than 6-8 weeks, the A1 pulley (flexor tendon sheet) must be opened by an incision. Here an example of a typical incision.

Operative procedure

Under local anesthesia through a small incision in the palm (app.10mm, picture) opening of the sheet and carefully shaping the tendon surface by removing adhesions.

This procedure is done in app. 5-7 minutes.

What’s next

Immediately after operation your hand / finger is ready to serve. Within the first days after operation, some restriction in power and speed of the hand is common. Returning to work normally within a week. Some patients need physiotherapy.
